Red Lake white fish…

Temperatures here at camp have been in the 80’s and 90s Fahrenheit with little break since camp opened on May 18. This record-breaking heat has predictably slowed the bite on the walleye and northern. While there have still been plenty of fish caught for eating, this challenging weather had a few of our guests targeting other types of fish. This week these white fish were caught while guests were deep-water jigging for lake trout. These measured around 23 inches long, but the local Red Lake talk is that there are significantly larger white fish in the lake.

Today, a few storms and rain have come through, thankfully bringing cooler temperatures. Guests who were out fishing during it, said that everything changed, and the fish started biting again immediately.
