When I have told people that I will be quarantining at Bow Narrows for 2 weeks, those that know commented “Couldn’t think of a better place!” I totally agree.

My Days Under Quarantine

The long drive to camp started Sunday morning. It felt strange to be traveling to camp this time of year, yet familiar as I reminisced of all the trips I had made to my sanctuary as a lone fisherman. Stops were kept to an absolute minimum only stopping to take on fuel and one hotel stay in International Falls, MN, all the time exercising the protocols of the current situation.

My border crossing was relatively painless with “masked” conversations at 2 meters-plus distancing. I was told in no uncertain terms that I was to go straight to camp for 14 days with no human contact.

I arrived in Red Lake to find the Lickety Split ready and waiting in Howey Bay, stocked with my quarantine necessities through the help of Red Lake Marine, Jamie Robinson, Mike Litwin Fuels and IGA. Thank you to all of them for getting everything in place!

The Lickety at the end of the dock pointing out to camp, all stocked for a 2-week quarantine.

I arrived at camp Monday evening finding the camp just as I had left it last October, including the high lake level. It is amazing what ample rain and long daylight hours grow without human intervention.

Camp sporting its COVID-19 look…long grass plus me next to some crazy-tall rhubarb flowers.

The grass in front of cabins 7 isn’t too long until you get back to cabins 8, 8.5, 9 and 10. There it is tall and has fallen over in some places. That will require additional strategies.

It will take time to get things under control. In addition to the long grass, I found a malfunctioning generator. I fixed the generator. Working on the knee-high grass. But overall, the cabins and all are in really good shape.
