Yes we will be open for American guests on August 9 and incredible chain of events!

The forest fires near camp have subsided thanks to an incredible chain of events.

We were told to evacuate on July 11. A day later all wind virtually ceased for about 6 days. During which time the lake was like glass during each day, slowing the advancement of the fires. For the next 3 days the wind was from the east and north resulting in the fires burning back on themselves. Then the rain started with camp missing the meat of the first two bands. So I was anxiously watching the radar and saw a small blip representing light rain heading for the fires and camp.

Somewhat disappointed, I went and did a little work for a half hour. Heard a little thunder rumbling in the distance  so I thought I would check the radar again. The blip had doubled in size and contained a good bit of purple indicating ice in the upper levels which in turn means a storm with significant height and moisture. I was on the gas dock when it started to rain gently at first then…..the heavens opened up!

You know the type of rain here, the type that makes the lake service “boil”. Pea sized hail too and no lightning! Not sure how long it lasted but it was a lot of water in a relatively short time. The concrete steps leading up the hill from the gas dock turned into mini rapids with a 2”-3” tall wall of water racing into the lake. The storm had bloomed and let loose right on top of the fires!

Since then, we are having morning smoke that gives way to clearer skies by late morning when the wind comes up.
