Red Lake, Ontario is in
the Boreal Forest but owes its dry, sunny
weather to the influence of the Canadian
Prairies, not far to the west.
Daytime highs: May 60s, June 70s, July and
August 80s, September 60s.
The dry air and Bow Narrows’ location on a
peninsula keep insects like mosquitoes in check.
The lake water is usually very pleasant for
swimming in July and August and often times in
mid-to-late June as well.
We have nearly 20 hours of daylight in June.
This gives ample opportunities for fishing but
is not so good to see Northern Lights. May,
August and September are better for that.
The Perseid Meteor Shower in mid-August can be
fabulous in our dark sky with no light
pollution.
Bring binoculars for fantastic sharp images
of the moon plus other astronomical objects like
nebulae. |

The sun this far North can be intense so don’t
forget to bring sunscreen and a large-brimmed
hat. Once in awhile we are affected by cool
rainy weather so also be prepared with excellent
rainwear and boots.
